My sister wants to go to college for culinary arts. Of course most culinary schools are really expensive. My dad told us that he saw that Disney had a program where they pay for you to go to college for culinary arts. I was just wondering, since I've never heard of it, if someone has if they could give me some info on it.
You're talking about the Disney College Program. I'm starting mine in August. I'm not doing a culinary arts program but they do have that option. It really is an amazing opportunity. Check out the link for the Disney World program

Tell your sister to go for it!! They also have the culinary roles available for the program at Disneyland

I’m going to apply to art colleges and culinary colleges, but the problems are that I’m a resource student and I have a 1.89 GPA.
My only strong points that could help are my essay writing skills, my California High School Exit exam score, my grades in my art classes and my skill in art, writing and culinary. Not to mention I do GREAT in interviews!
What are my chances, in your opinion?
Well, being a Resource student is not a terrible thing. My son too Resource for the first three year of high school. He is now in college. But, I need to mention that his GPA was higher than yours.
However – I firmly believe that for every student there is a school to fit their needs! You sound like you have some really strong points, and you should capitalize on them – use them to your best advantage, don’t give up, and work hard! You will be able to accomplish whatever you want if you persevere!
All my best wishes for your future!

Ok so like I am majoring in Game Software Development at Westwood College Online and I have been a student there since May of 08. Well because they are wanting so much money now that I dont have and want me to apply for MORE loans (I am think I am at like $15,000 already, and they are already wanting another $14,000 by tomorrow and I still havnt filled out the loan). Well I want to transfer to a Culinary Arts school I think, I use to cook down at the local restuarant and I loved it and I watch the food network all the time. The only thing is that I need to keep a full time job because I have my own house that I am looking to buy in a few months($20,000 house). Now that all the background information is out of the way…….
Do you think it would be a smart idea to transfer school?
How hard would it be to transfer?
Do you think its a smart idea to take classes online?
If so where at??
What about the money that I already spent at Westwood?
I got stanford Loans so far if that helps.
Or Would it be better actually GO to college?
My total cost at WestWood College is over $75,000!!!
I currently Live in Central Nebraska
People are always going to eat. You can earn some good money as a chef if you have it you. I have been cooking Italian Cuisine since I was 13, and its great working as a Head Chef. Just follow your heart so you do not end up spending thousands of dollars in a career you are going to end up hating.

My father owns a supermarket which has a kitchen that prepares warm meals/foods such as: veal, pasta, chicken, salad, pasta, etc.
If I worked in there for a few months do you think its enough experience to get into a culinary arts college such as – CIA or Johnson & Wales?
Thanks.
CIA requires 6 months culinary experience. J&W does not have any requirements, only that you pick pastry or culinary upon applying.

Firstly, if you don't know what fibromyalgia is and/or have no personal experience with it….then there's really no point in answering the question because I can't explain everything that comes along with the disorder here in this small space. Secondly, it would help to explain my fibro level: comparitively, I'm "highly functioning"; I take no prescription meds anymore for fibro…I found an all natural herbal called Activive; I try to adhere to a certain sleeping schedule and low stress look on life to help reduce my symptoms (it's amazing what taking things with a grain of salt will do for you lol); compartively, I dont have flare-ups very often…maybe once every 3 months?.
I've recently made the decision to forego a forensic science degree and transfer to a culinary arts college. I love food and everything about it….I have a deep passion for cooking and have rolled the idea of a culinary arts career around in my mind for a few yrs now.
However, I have fibromyalgia. I did take this into consideration while trying to make my decision. Over the years, I've bounced back and forth about the idea and finally decided that with proper shoes and adhering to my lifestyle changes, I'd be able to do it…if I just set my mind to it.
Over the last few days, though, I've become very frustrated.
I've been in the kitchen cooking quite a bit, for long periods of time…and my feet are killing me (even with wearing my Chef Crocs
), my joints are stiff as all get out, my head's killing me, I'm nauseated, and I generally feel shaky and weak (typical fibro "flare up" symptoms). It's frustrating because I'm beginning to wonder if I'm being too naive about being able to just "put my mind to it" and still fulfill my dream of being a chef with fibro. I'm wondering if anyone out there who knows about fibro and culinary arts who can give me some insight? Tips? Am I looking through rose colored glasses…can it be done? Of course, no one wants to tell someone, hey you just cant do this…but I also have to be realistic. Sometimes, health issues limit your abilities, no matter how much you dont want to let them. Or maybe there's an adjustment period for my body to get a bit more used to the rise in activity? After a while, maybe certain muscles will strengthen after being used more often for standing or what not?
Thanks for the insight, opinions, tips, etc.
I'm thinking that maybe instead of a restaurant chef, I should opt for a career as a personal chef? I like the idea of the hours and working environment…but can one be a personal chef right out of the gate (with a degree from Le Cordon Bleu?), or do you need experience first before you can become certified as a personal chef?
perhaps you shoudl speak with your doctor? Maybe he can give you some better insight or advice? just a thought… or maybe you will need medications? or extra vitamins .. dontgive up if that is what you truly want to do..I'm sure you will be able to.. no matter what career you pursue I am sure there will be things that will flare up your symptoms .. best wishes!
