Find Culinary School

Become a Great Chef

Ok so I want to open a restaurant after I get out of culinary school. I love all kinds of food and I think people should have choices because everyone loves different types of foods (i.e. Chinese, Italian, American, African, Swedish…) and I was thinking I could start a restaurant that has a little bit of everything instead of a base restaurant. Do you think that's a good idea or is it too much work?
No, not a buffet. Just a regular off the menu restaurant.
Wow, I never thought about all that. Thanks so much. I'm gonna take that into HUGE consideration!

I thought about doing the same thing…I would call it World Cuisine…Have a regional dish…Large Pizza/Fettucini Alfredo, Enchiladas/Chicken Mole', Chicken Fried Steak/Fried Catfish, Asian Rice Noodles with Garlic Shrimp/Mongolian Beef, Gyros/Kabob, …The restaurant could be sectioned by region. My Fiance' came up with a name – "It's All Good".

Career Help!?

I am having a career conflict.

My parents have told me I need to pick the career I want now and I thought about it. The two top things on my list were Veterinarian and Chef. So completly different from each other.

I love animals and really want to be a vet, but there's so much schooling needed and money I don't have.

Then again I love to cook. I love taking a basic food and find some way to spice it up and make it mine. I love to cook things. My ultimate culinary dream would be to open a resturant that is everything in one. You cna get something as simple as a burger and fries, but you can also get something more upscale. You can get a piece of cake or eclaires. You can get italian or mexican or thai. I would have booths, but also candle lit tables on the patio.

How do I pick? I want to be both so much, and there are so many pros and cons to each.

Ask yourself this question.

If you hit the lottery tomorrow and could do anything, which would you choose?

Choose that one.

and there's nothing that says you can't do both, btw.

Apply to a university of 4 year college as an undecided major. Then once admitted, immediately make an appointment to see a career counselor on your campus. He or she will have you take the discover and/or focus test which you will answer questions on whether you like math, writing, working with people, working alone, etc. and based on your answers you will be given a list of potential majors that might suit you according to what you like and what you don't. Then you can take intro courses in some of those fields and take your general education courses too. If after the intro course you find you don't like it, you take 2-3 new intro courses the following semester or quarter and by the time you're a junior, you'll have found something you enjoy.

College Help, Please?

Your Question
College Help?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ok…I’m 15, 16 in December and i am trying to find a really good college near Gainesville, Ga(I’m moving there after high school). For the longest time i wanted to be a marine biologist but since i started spending more time with my Italian Grandparents, i found out that I’m really interested in culinary arts. My grandfather had a restaurant in Medina, New York(where i was born) named Louis’ Fine Dining. People from all over came just to eat there. In 1995(i was 3)my parents and i moved down to Georgia to help my uncle with his dairy business. One summer when my grandparents came to see us, my grandfather got sick and they moved down here with us and had to close their restaurant. Now that i have thought about it, i want to open a restaurant with all of the same Italian foods that they served, in his name. sorry this has taken so long to get at the point….does anyone know about a good school around the area of Gainesville? if so, please tell me what college it is and tell me what you think about my plans.

Thank You!!!
Courtney
