I went vegetarian on monday, I have been doing really wel since, exect today i think i broke my cycle, in my culinary class at school , were we totry appetizers our class mates had made, and i had tried a pig in a blanket, and half of a small meatball. By eating these did i break my vegetarian diet so much?
except*
we had to try appetizers*
well if you have been a meat-eater for some time you just have to get use to it. if i was a meat-eater before i was a vegetarian i would think hay i can give my self a break i just started. it's OK that you did that just try not to do it again one time wont effect anything.

Out of all the vegans and vegetarians I've met, I've never met one that drinks.
Is this because those who are vegan/vegetarian are simply more health-conscious?
Have I just not met one that drinks yet?
Or is this because yeast is used in the fermentation process and yeast is technically a living thing?
*Don't send me nasty answers please, this is a legitimate question. I'm in culinary school and I would like to know more about those who are vegan/vegetarian so I can cater my future endevours to a wider customer base.
I am fully aware of the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Sorry for not being more specific in my question.
I'm a vegetarian, and I like a good drink.
Most wines use either isinglass, which is made from fish scales, or egg whites to clarify the wine after fermentation. The isinglass/egg white attaches itself to the cloudy particles, and the whole is then strained out. It is also possible to use ash or white clay for the same purpose, but it's less common.

I am interested in studying culinary arts (preferably baking/pastry) but concerned about classes. I am all for taking classes and learning new things and all. But I am not too keen on having to handle meat. Do you have to? would I just be able to observe ( I don't plan on ever cooking meat). I know in high school I didn't have to perform dicetions. Does the same go for college?
okay, my main interest is baking. possibly being a chocolatier or wedding cake designer. What I am trying to ask is if even a pastry chef needs to study everything about being a chef. Including meat.
I don't think you can go thru culinary school with out learning about meats, how to cook them, etc. It's part of the classes. You even have to taste them to see how they are suppose to taste after cooking. Sorry to tell you this. You can call the schools, to ask, but I'm afraid that they answer will be no:( If you do go, just enjoy it

I need a very simple recipe, that doesn't use meat. Doesn't have to be like "vegetarian". but, I don't want the main course to be meat. Um, I'm looking for some nice pasta that is REALLY tastey. I'm cooking it for my boyfriend whose in culinary in school and likes tastey/looks good food.
Pasta Vodka
Melt one stick of butter in a deep sauce pan on medium heat. Add crushed red peppers or red pepper flakes.
Add one cup of vodka.
Cook until the vodka has evaporated. (You can tell by smelling the vapors…when you place your nose over the pan and can no longer smell alcohol it has evaporated.
Add 1 15 oz. can of tomato puree and 1 cup of heavy cream to the butter/vodka. Cook until just heated through. Add parmesan cheese to taste.
Meanwhile cook penne pasta until done.
Toss pasta in sauce and serve with a salad and garlic bread!
This is a gourmet recipe, but simple and yummy. I learned the recipe from a friend of mine that was a chef at a French Restaurant.

For the longest time I have been interested in the culinary arts. I used to want to be a chef. But I became a vegetarian, and I am very dedicated to this lifestyle, I don't feel comfortable working with meat all the time, I will on occasion but I don't like to do it very often. So I realize that being a vegetarian chef limits me quite a bit so my question is, what is the money like for a vegetarian chef? Is school expensive? What is an average pay for a working chef?
I agree…school is a bad option. I work for a Natural/Organics company that has a huge foodsvc/gourmettogo/catering dept. We are in the Southeast and cater to people with lifestyles that conventional outlets do not cater to. We produce vegetarian and vegan dishes and baked goods for the masses. I have quite a few chefs under me that are veggies or vegan and I never make them compromise their beliefs for production's sake. The pay scale is no different than other chefs and is varied by venue and location. If you live in our region, email me and I'll see if your skills sets fit our company needs.
